Embracing New Challenges: Signing Autographs with a Twist

Sometimes life challenges us to adapt in ways we never expected. Recently, I found myself navigating the delicate art of using my mouth to write, a skill I never thought I would need until ALS made it necessary.

A Necessary Skill for a Crucial Task: My first attempt at mouth-writing wasn't for autographs—it was for something far more personal and urgent. Signing my will with a pen held in my mouth marked a poignant moment, recognizing the inevitable progression of ALS. This act was not only about ensuring my wishes are honored but also about securing the future of my creative works and protecting my family's rights.

The Importance of a Will: Living with a life-threatening illness has taught me the value of preparation. Creating a will provided peace of mind, knowing that my affairs, including the rights to my books, would be managed according to my wishes. For anyone in a similar situation, I strongly recommend taking this step. It's not just about material assets—it's about stewarding your legacy.

Learning and Adapting: Mastering eye-tracking technology to operate a computer has opened new avenues for me, far beyond merely lying in bed. This technology is not just a tool for work; it offers entertainment and connectivity, breaking the monotony of illness with creativity and engagement.

The Joy of Signing My Work: After completing my coloring book, I wanted to add a personal touch by signing copies myself. Experimenting with different tools, from latex-gloved pens to silicone pencil caps, I finally found that a felt marker delivered the best result—a bright hot pink signature with my initials and a heart.

This journey of adaptation and learning has not only allowed me to handle personal affairs but also to connect with my readers in a very personal way. Each signed book is a testament to overcoming barriers and embracing life's challenges head-on.
